Uber. Airbnb. Apple. All of these companies are industry leaders. They disrupted their markets when they launched. What’s the secret to their success? These cutting-edge businesses are built on platforms: two-sided markets that are revolutionizing the way we do business. Platforms that operate for business purposes usually exist at the level of an industry or ecosystem, bringing together individuals and organizations so they can innovate and interact in ways not otherwise possible. In this lecture, we will discuss how platforms generate economic value and how they differentiate from conventional companies.
We will analyze the strategies of existing companies in building and sustaining and discuss how new businesses can compete in networked markets.
