[15 Dec] 6th Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum: “Higher Education: The Third Mission” – IEF2021

The Centre for Entrepreneurship (C4E) of the University of Cyprus with the support of PwC Cyprus, present the 6th Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum: “Higher Education: The Third Mission” – IEF2021

Overview:

The  2021  Forum  will  bring together  academics, researchers, professionals and entrepreneurs to discuss the role of education in Entrepreneurship, the need for the development of entrepreneurial competencies, research commercialization and the evolving strategies to fulfil the so called “Third Mission” in an Entrepreneurial University.

There is a growing pressure for academic curricula and research activities to respond to the needs of society and economy. To address the growing societal and economic challenges in addition to the traditional missions of scientific enquiry (research) and human capital development (teaching), the so-called 'third mission' has become a major policy concern in higher education in recent years. As a result, universities are increasingly engaged in a broad range of knowledge exchange activities, and are expected to act as key contributors to the economic and social development of their local and regional ecosystems.

The University of Cyprus in collaboration with the local and regional ecosystem develops, plans and participates in parallel actions that promote the exploitation of research and innovation. The above actions are expected to function as key players in the economic and social development of the local and regional ecosystem.

Keynote Speaker for the 2021 PwC Distinguished Lecture“The need for the development of entrepreneurial competencies and the role of Universities in research commercialization” is Associate Professor Katerina - Athens University of Economics and Business, Scientific Coordinator ACEin and Partner at Uni.Fund. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on "Higher Education as a driving force for Technology and Entrepreneurship: Opportunities and challenges for Cyprus" coordinated by Evgenios C Evgeniou, CEO, PwC Cyprus.

IEF 2021 will also feature the Award Ceremony of the Cyprus Entrepreneurship Competition (CyEC 2021) and the presentation of the 8 finalists of the CyEC business acceleration program. The Cyprus Entrepreneurship competition 2021 is organized by the Center of Entrepreneurship (C4E) with the support of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry and with the valuable contribution of distinguished organizations and personalities from the Cypriot / Global business and research ecosystem.
