Synopsis: 

Presented by Angela Panayiotou, a visionary force of the startup ecosystem in Cyprus, this talk provides insights into the world of startups. The presentation delves into the critical role of startups in driving economic and social growth. Useful guidance is provided through a list of recommended practices (Do's) and pitfalls to avoid (Don'ts), followed by broader observations from the startup landscape. The highlight is a comparison of some successful startups and some that failed, providing real-world lessons for budding entrepreneurs, focusing on Angel Investors’ Insights. The session concludes with key takeaways and an interactive Q&A segment.

The Speaker:

Angela is a Business & Startup Advisor with long experience in Cyprus & abroad. Angela was leading the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center of the Bank of Cyprus, having the responsibility for IDEA Innovation Center for Startups, the Business Academy focusing on SME financial & digital literacy & ARIS Startups Incubator.

Today she also heads the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation focusing on youth education and is an Advisor to the renowned businessman John Christodoulou, founder of the Yianis Group.

Angela is a member of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency – Invest Cyprus and a Chairwoman of the Foreign Investor Aftercare Committee. She served as a Member of the BoD of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, of IDEA Innovation Center, a member of the Advisory Boards of ARIS Incubator, European University Cyprus EUC – PEAK Innovation Center & the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Cyprus, C4E – UCY. In 2021 she was awarded with the Madame Figaro ‘Woman of the Year Award’ in the category of ‘Businesswoman/Professional’. In 2019 she received on behalf of IDEA, the 1st European Award by the European Commission after having competed with 29 countries, in the European Enterprise Promotion Awards.

Angela holds a BSc in Financial Services, a BBA in Business Administration & an ΜΒΑ. She has received training though US State Department on SMEs, is a Certified Islamic Finance ExecutiveTM ETHICA – AAOFI, has received training in Economic Diplomacy by Ministry of Foreign Affairs & she is a Certified (Advanced) Investor Advice Provider from Cyprus Securities & Exchange Commission.
