Synopsis:

The Bank of Cyprus is organizing the 6th Application Development Innovation Marathon – BoC Fintech Hackathon 6.0, which focuses on the implementation of proposals and digital applications related to Fintech, also combining themes such as Social Innovation, Smart Cities, and Sustainability, with the main goal of promoting entrepreneurship.

 

BoC Fintech Hackathon 6.0 will take place on October 10–12, 2025, with physical presence at the IDEA Innovation Center in Nicosia.

BoC Fintech Hackathon 6.0

At BoC Fintech Hackathon 6.0, developers, startups, professionals, students, and anyone interested in participating and actively contributing to the development of applications that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and the creation of services and applications aimed at improving daily life and the evolution of service provision for all, are welcome to join.

The goal of BoC Fintech Hackathon 6.0 is to create innovative solutions up to the stage of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with the prospect of further development into fully functional applications.

The Bank of Cyprus, through its upgraded open banking APIs (sandbox) and the SDK (Software Development Kit), will provide teams with technological support to integrate innovative capabilities such as payment execution and the secure use of transaction data for service development.

For the teams that stand out, there will be significant cash and other prizes, as outlined below:

1st Prize: €7,000

2nd Prize: €4,000

3rd Prize: €2,000

Additional €2,000 for the best use of Jinius APIs.

The applications developed by the teams may respond, with appropriate business and technological approaches, to the following challenges (non-binding):

  • Fintech for Smart Cities: Development of innovative solutions that improve citizens' daily lives and the efficiency of municipal services through Fintech and IoT technologies.
  • Sustainable Finance & Green Banking: Promotion of sustainable practices and environmentally responsible products through modern Fintech technologies.
  • Inclusive Fintech & Social Impact: Fintech technologies that facilitate access to financial services and enhance social cohesion.
  • Digital Payments for Urban Sustainability: Digital payment solutions that promote sustainable mobility and eco-friendly behavior.
  • DeFi for Civic Engagement: Use of blockchain and DeFi technologies for active citizen participation in governance and local initiatives.
  • AI-powered Fintech for Resource Optimization: Use of AI for resource optimization and responsible consumption.
    Resilient Fintech Infrastructure for Crisis Response: Technological solutions for immediate response to crises, natural disasters, and economic needs.
  • Circular Economy & Tokenized Incentives: Promotion of the circular economy through tokenization and Fintech solutions.
  • Fintech for Social Innovation: Technological solutions that foster social innovation and social responsibility.
  • AI-powered Marketplace innovation for Jinius: Proposals for AI-driven improvements in functionality, user experience, and personalization of a modern marketplace.

Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss and develop their ideas with professionals from the field.
