SEIT Lab (Computer Science Department), in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurship (C4E), are hosting a Hackathon event as part of the Greensteam Project on December 3, 2025, bringing together student innovators to address pressing environmental challenges facing our planet.

International Collaboration for Sustainability

Higher Education students from Cyprus will join forces to develop creative and sustainable solutions to real-world environmental issues. This collaborative event will challenge participants to think critically and innovatively about some of today's most urgent ecological concerns, including:

• Reducing plastic pollution in our oceans and communities
• Designing circular business models that minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency
• Promoting ethical production practices across industries
• Increasing energy efficiency in everyday applications

Competition and Recognition

During the Hackathon, teams will compete by pitching their innovative ideas to a panel of judges who will evaluate proposals based on their feasibility, impact, and creativity. The most promising and impactful solutions will be recognized and rewarded, providing students with both recognition and incentives to continue their work in sustainability.

Rewards

• First 2 winners gain entry to next year’s SINN competition.
• All participants will be considered to have met the internship requirement towards C4E’s Certificate of Entrepreneurship.
  
• Greensteam’s Hackathons Certificate.

Strategic Partnership

The Software Engineering and Internet Technologies Laboratory (SEIT) lab is part of the Computer Science Department of the University of Cyprus. The lab focuses its research activities on two important areas of Information Technology, namely Software Engineering and Internet Technologies.  The lab also pursues activities related to Technology Enhanced Learning, E-Business, E-Government and developing environments for elders’ social inclusion, active ageing and independent living.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship (C4E) at the University of Cyprus brings valuable expertise in fostering innovation and entrepreneurial thinking to this initiative. By co-organizing this event, C4E ensures that students not only develop environmental solutions but also gain essential skills in presenting ideas, business model development, and entrepreneurial mindset.

About the Greensteam Project

The Greensteam Project is committed to fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices through education, innovation, and international collaboration. By engaging students in hands-on problem-solving, the project aims to develop practical solutions that can be implemented to create positive environmental change. Overall, the project aims to make the skills for green transition and entrepreneurial spirit mainstream across female higher education students in STEAM.
